Daniel A. Velasquez is a partner in Latham Luna's Bankruptcy and Business Reorganization department in Orlando, Fla., and chairman of the firm’s Aviation practice group. He advises clients in restructuring and aviation-related transactions and litigation matters across Florida and the Southeast. Mr. Velasquez regularly represents debtors, creditors, investors and asset-purchasers in financial restructuring transactions, out-of-court workouts and formal insolvency proceedings, and represents Federal Aviation Administration-certified operators, flight schools and repair stations. He has experience representing clients in a wide range of industries, including aviation, financial services, health care, retail, real estate, hospitality, biomedical, chemical, marine construction, food service, toy and game manufacturing, transportation, technology, petroleum, software, flooring and religious services. He is a litigator in both state and federal courts, and has represented companies and individuals in civil and commercial litigation matters. Mr. Velasquez was a "40 Under 40" honoree in 2021 by the Orlando Business Journal and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers, which named him a "Rising Star" from 2020-23. He also was chosen for the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges’ Next Generation Program and was appointed to the District Wide-Steering Committee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida from 2020-22, as well as the court's Local Rules Lawyers’ Advisory Committee from 2020-23. Mr. Velasquez is a member of the Orange County Bar Association, ABI's Business Reorganization and Young and New Member Committees, the Central Florida Bankruptcy Law Association (for which he has served on its board since 2016), the Central Florida Business Aviation Association, and the Middle District of Florida Pro Se Bankruptcy Legal Assistance Clinic, Inc., for which he has served as director since 2019. He received his B.B.A. from Stetson University School of Business, his M.B.A. from Nova Southeastern University Huizenga School of Business and his J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law, where he received the Shepard Broad Law Center’s distinguished Professor Larry S. Kalevitch Award.
